McLaren: Good News for Everyone?
Respond to McLaren's questions: "What if the message of Jesus was good news--not just for Christians but also for Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, New Agers, agnostics, and atheists? And what if the message of Jesu contained warnings for Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, New Agers, agnostics, atheists--and for Christians too? What difference could it make in the lives of individuals, in their families and neighborhoods and circles of friends and in the world at large?" (p. 4)

The message of the New Testament was truly revolutionary at the time, and, although society has certainly advanced in some areas, it still is revolutionary.
ReplyDeleteHowever while technology changed and allowed to produce more at lower expense, improving living standards most everywhere, human nature did not change.
People still find it hard to live up to the high standard set by Jesus, but now the persona of Jesus became just a part of mass culture and lost most of its meaning.
There is no need to have spiritual guidance to be a good person; there is even no need for anyone to have a list of commandments -- most people intrinsically know what is right, but some choose to ignore it. It does not depend on religious or philosophical affiliation -- but on the person himself.
